An Expanded Campaign for the Varsity Center for the Arts

The Stage Company's capital campaign has been in effect since April, 2007.  With the recent gift of the Varsity Theater, it is imperative that the campaign be expanded due to forecasted costs for renovation and restoration of the property.  We want to create a Varsity Center for the Arts that will live in perpetuity and represent a cultural and artistic treasure for Carbondale and southern Illinois.  

We now know that it may cost in the range of $2-$3 million to create a modern theater for high quality productions in an elegant environment richly deserved by our community.  The phased construction calls for "build as funds come available", and we are prepared to move forward with renovations of the smaller space known as the East Theater to provide a temporary venue until the Main Theater is restored.  We are preparing overviews of the current condition of the building to help portray the urgency of our needs.  More information is forthcoming on this website.  Please refer to the Varsity Center page for more details.

We are currently accepting public donations but we want you to be more aware of our compelling story by looking for future details in the local media.  Many of us cherish our memories of going to the movies at the Varsity as youngsters, teens, and then with families of our own.  The Varsity holds our collective pride as a center for entertainment and socializing in those days gone past.  We promise more fond experiences and memories in the future with your help.

All capital donations are now being directed to the Varsity Center for the Arts project.  Please make your donations frequently.  Checks can be made payable to the Varsity Capital Campaign.  We also accept credit cards and payroll deductions and can help you to make those arrangement by calling the box office at 618-549-5466.
